One of the most intimidating new enemies that we’ll be fighting in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are the Purge Troopers, specifically trained to hunt down Jedi. Now, EA Community Manager Jay Ingraham has given us a bit more Fallen Order Purge Trooper information, specifically about their background in lore.
The Purge Troopers aren’t like ordinary stormtroopers. Encased in thick black armor and wielding the same kind of staffs that you saw General Grievous’s Magnaguards using in Star Wars media set in the Clone Wars, they’re trained to hunt and kill Jedi as part of the Empire’s continuing efforts to render them extinct.
Players will find them tough customers, not only because they can take multiple lightsaber hits to bring down, but because they’re skilled fighters who aren’t affected by your Force powers the same way that normal stormtroopers are.
Ingraham’s post tells us that while originally the Purge Troopers were selected from clones, in the aftermath of the Clone Wars most of them have been killed off in the line of duty by the time of the game. Now, regular humans are trained to their same exacting standards.
In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Purge Troopers will be assisting the Second Sister in hunting down protagonist Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who is forced to go on the run from the Empire after revealing his Force powers.
The Second Sister is an Inquisitor, one of the same group from Star Wars: Rebels that made use of spinning lightsabers as they hunted down Jedi for Darth Vader. While the Purge Troopers already put up a tough enough fight, one can only guess how dangerous she’ll be.
You’ll be able to fight the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Purge Troopers for yourself when the game releases on November 15 of this year for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
