Will Shenmue 3 Release on Steam for PC?

Shenmue 3 by Ys Net might not release on Steam Store for PC as hinted by the developer in a recent post. Publisher Deep Silver recently took the stage at 2019 Electronic Entertainment Expo to announce that Shenmue 3 will release for Windows 10 starting with Epic Games Store.

Afterward, Ys Net took it to the game’s Kickstarter page to explain their decision for making Shenmue 3 an Epic Store exclusive on PC.

Development for Shenmue 3 has been moving forward using Unreal Engine and the support we have received from Epic has been excellent. But most importantly, in looking for the most enjoyable experience on PC, it was decided together with Deep Silver after much discussion that the Epic Games Store would be the best distribution platform option.

The statement pretty much confirms that Ys Net has no plans to bring Shenmue to any other PC distribution platform except Epic Store. A logo for Valve’s Steam platform was also not showing during the trailer. There’s a very little chance that the game will arrive on Steam after some time.

With that said, it’s safe to say that Steam backers of the Shenmue 3 will be offered some kind of refund. If that doesn’t happen then Shenmue 3 backers will have to play the game via Epic Store. This new development naturally has made Shenmue 3 backers angry and fans are expressing the anger on Shenmue 3 official kickstarter page.

The good news is that the deal between Epic Games, Deep Silver, and Ys Net doesn’t affect the game’s PlayStation 4 version.

Shenmue 3 has been confirmed to release for PC and PS4 on November 19, 2019. This is great news for all Shenmue series fans as the third entry in the series has been delayed many times in the past.
