E3 2019, one of the most important gaming events of the year is finally here and we are getting a tone of news; While some of them are confirmed, others are rumors so far. And so it happens that a leak suggests a 2020 release date and revealing Standard Edition Bonuses for Cyberpunk 2077 along with its contents.
The Cyberpunk 2077 leak comes from a post made by user vestan on ResetEra. According to Vestan, the images in questions have a polish origin. Right off the bat, there are a couple of things to notice.
The first thing to notice is that on the bottom right, CD Projekt Red is listed as the distributor for Cyberpunk 2077 Standard Edition. This is due to the fact that CDPR will publish Cyberpunk 2077 in Poland whereas the game will be distributed elsewhere by Warner Bros.
The Cyberpunk 2077 Standard Edition also comes with a map of Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City. Among the items, there is also a mini book with all of the game’s art design. The most eye-catching item in the Cyberpunk 2077 Standard Edition is the “Cyberpunk 2020 Manual, which is likely to be a callback the original Cyberpunk 2020 pen and paper RPG.
“The 2020 in the top-right corner is NOT the release period btw – that’s the original pen-and-paper RPG’s handbook,” writes Vestan in his post.
Vestan has also included an image of The Witcher 3’s Standard Edition. If we compare the leaked Cyberpunk 2077 Standard Edition to Witcher 3’s, we can speculate that CD Projekt Red may or may not include other items as well. These items can include Cyberpunk 2077’s soundtrack, stickers, and a Cyberpunk 2077 universe compendium.
Now comes the release date. Many may be quick to judge 2020 as the game’s release date but it is both likely and unlikely. If Cyberpunk 2020’s marketing is going the same route as Witcher 3’s then we can assume a 2020 release date between February and May. Adding the pen and paper Cyberpunk 2020 in the box set might also suggest a 2020 date.
On the other hand, it would only confuse the consumers if the box of Cyberpunk 2077 literally says “Cyberpunk 2020”. CDPR’s marketing team would obviously want to avoid that. This is also why it a 2019 release date for Cyberpunk 2077 is unlikely.
As far as release platforms are concerned, we already know that the game will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with a possible release on next-gen consoles (Xbox Scarlett and PS5).
Since neither CD Projekt Red nor Warner Bros. has confirmed anything official regarding Cyberpunk 2077 Standard Edition, it is best to take this information with a small grain of salt. We already know that Cyberpunk 2077’s development “is proceeding at full speed.” The game development is already in its late stages.
Just quite recently Kotaku editor, Jason Schreier, also shot down rumors of Cyberpunk 2077 releasing in 2019.
Whatever the case may be with the Cyberpunk 2077 Standard Edition, it is likely we will get more news following E3 2019 where there will be two demos.
Cyberpunk 2077 is coming out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC with no confirmed release date as of yet. Cyberpunk 2077 will also have mod support but CD Projekt Red doesn’t have any plans to share at the moment.
