THQ Nordic Announces Spongebob Game Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated

Yesterday, THQ Nordic said that the company would be announcing three new games to be released in the future. Now the first game, Spongebob Squarepants Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, has been announced. Two other games from THQ Nordic will be getting released tomorrow and Friday, before E3 2019 begins this weekend.

Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is a full remake of the original Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom game, based on the popular children’s cartoon Spongebob Squarepants. The game, originally released in 2003, still holds a nostalgic place in many gamers’ hearts.

In yet another attempt to steal the Krabby Patty Secret Formula, Plankton creates an army of robots that quickly go rogue and begin to run amok in Bikini Bottom. It’s up to Spongebob and his friends, including Patrick and Sandy, to stop the robots and save Bikini Bottom.

The game featured a wide variety of gameplay, with everything from racing to platforming to time trials and boss fights. Alongside that was the same trademark humor from the series, making it seem like players were going through an episode themselves.

Otherwise, it was a typical, yet fun, action platformer, one of the multiple Spongebob licensed games that came out in years past. Players took on the role of Spongebob and his friends to collect Golden Spatulas to access new areas, and “Shiny Things” to serve as currency to buy new Spatulas or to increase their score in general.

Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated will likely be almost identical to the original game, but with upgraded graphics for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch, which it will be releasing on.

The game will also include content that hadn’t been included in the original game, and will also feature a horde mode that can be played with two players in local co-op or online, unlike the original game that was single-player only.

Currently Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated doesn’t have a release date, but hopefully it will be soon, or we’ll be given it at E3. To see the game’s teaser for yourself, you can follow this link to YouTube.
