The Playstation Store and Xbox Store have both described the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer count to be up to 20 players. While this doesn’t give it the same sort of scale as Blackout in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, it’s still a sizable number for Modern Warfare multiplayer.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (the original, that is) was responsible for really getting Call of Duty into the first-person shooter multiplayer scene, leading to the series’s intense rivalry with the Battlefield games.
Call of Duty, however, is different from Battlefield in that it’s focused more on tight, fast, intense firefights rather than huge set-pieces (at least in multiplayer.) The Modern Warfare multiplayer count being 20, rather than 18 like previous games, means the games will take on a new scale, however minor the change is.
The updated count is, if anything, made more important by the fact that the game will also support cross-platform play, not have a season pass, and have free DLC. For the first time, players on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC will all be able to play together.
This is the first bit of any sort of multiplayer knowledge that’s been revealed since the game was announced yesterday, but hopefully we’ll be able to see more of it either at E3 this year or in a trailer sometime afterwards.
With the game releasing on October 25, Infinity Ward doesn’t have much time to promote the game. With that in mind, we likely won’t have to wait for very long before the Modern Warfare multiplayer trailer comes out, or we get footage.
Since most members of the Call of Duty crowd play it for the multiplayer, we’ll likely be seeing some of it from Infinity Ward at E3, likely through special multiplayer event footage if we don’t get it at the actual press conference.
Regardless, hopefully the updated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer count helps to make the game’s multiplayer more intense. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be coming out on October 25 for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
