Finally, there will be no Call of Duty Modern Warfare season pass as confirmed by Infinity Ward. Call of Duty games have used season pass to add paid additional content for years. Call of Duty Modern Warfare DLC will be free for PS4, Xbox One, and PC players.
This year, the developer is aiming to unite the community by eliminating the traditional season pass, so the team at work can deliver more free maps and post-launch content for all the players. It’s great to see that the developer is finally going into a new direction based on fan feedback.
Every design decision has been made with our players in mind, said Patrick Kelly, Creative Director and co-Studio Head, Infinity Ward.
In case you don’t know already, Activision has long released Call of Duty games with a season pass that usually cost about $50. Furthermore, all of the recent Call of Duty season passes brought early access to one console platform (previously Xbox and now PlayStation).
Apparently, Activision will support the lack of season pass through microtransactions, which have been part of Call of Duty games for a long time.
Despite the efforts to unite the community, there will still be platform exclusives and early content access. This was confirmed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trailer posted via PlayStation’s YouTube account.
At the end of the trailer, a message appears which mentions that new Call of Duty Modern Warfare DLC will arrive first on PlayStation 4. Beneath it, there’s another message which confirms the exclusivity period which is one week. “New playable content, when available, will launch on PS4 seven days prior to launch on other platforms,” the message reads.
This doesn’t surprise us because Sony partnered with Activision back in 2015 with Black Ops 3. Since then, all of Call of Duty DLC has released first on PlayStation 4 and a week later on Xbox One and PC. The only difference this year will be that all post-release maps will arrive for free.
That’s not it as IW and Activision have other plans to unite the community this year. As said by Infinity Ward in a statement, Call of Duty Modern Warfare will come with cross-platform support.
The team plans for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support.
The above statement doesn’t clarify if Xbox One and PS4 players will be able to play together or not as it just mentions that PC players will be able to play together with the console players. Either way, it’s great news for competitive gaming as competitive players will be able to play on their preferred platform.
In short, there will be a whole lot of more players to play against in Call of Duty Modern Warfare.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a reboot of the series and is built upon a new engine, which will allow players to play the game in 4K with HDR and take advantage of DirectX Raytracing on PC.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare with no season pass will release on October 25. We will learn more about the game at E3 2019.
