Square Enix To Reveal Marvel’s Avengers Game At E3 2019

Square Enix has announced that the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game will receive a “world-wide reveal” at E3 2019.

Without a doubt, MCU’s Avengers has been one of the most celebrated, loved, and ambitious entertainment venture in recent history. Aside from the cinematic universe, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have also been working on a Marvel’s Avengers video game. After months and months of leaks and rumors, we will finally be getting some solid news soon.

Marvel’s Avengers’ official Twitter account popped up back in February 2019 but escaped many eyes. Just yesterday, the account became active and posted its first Tweet.

Now right off the bat, there is a ton of speculation about the game. According to one report, Marvel’s Avengers will feature “melee combat, cover shooting, stealth sections, and boss fights.” A recent Square Enix job listing described Marvel’s Avengers an “unforgettable” experience for Marvel fans.

Another Square Enix job listing revealed that Avengers is in development for next-generation platforms like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Anaconda.

Since Square Enix hasn’t shared much detail about the game’s story, universe, gameplay, a lot of fans are speculating the Avengers game is set in the same universe as Insomniac’s Spider-Man PS4.

Of course, that would make sense when you consider all the Avengers hints and easter eggs found in Spider-Man PS4. There is the Avengers tower in New York. There are mentions of several Avengers characters. There is a Wakandan embassy. And of course, Doctor Strange’s Sanctum. If this is true, the Avengers game will give birth to a new era of “Marvel Game Universe (MGU)”.

The recent Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer also confirmed the existence of the multiverse/multi-dimensions in the MCU. It wouldn’t be so far fetched to assume that the MCU will somehow tie into the MGU.

In the previous teaser trailer for the game, we can hear a voice narrate “They say the time of heroes is over. That if you’re ‘different,’ you’re dangerous. But I know the truth. The world will always need heroes. We just need to reassemble.”

This heavily implies that the Avengers have broken up somehow and they need to “reassemble”. The trailer also shows Thor’s hammer “Mjolnir”, Iron Man’s gauntlet, and Captain America’s shield.

The trailer also shows a brief glimpse of a cracked pair of spectacles in the foreground, in the background, we can see a large steel containment door broken. We can also hear a loud monstrous scream. Even though it is unclear, it can be speculated that this is Dr. Bruce Banner transforming into the Hulk.

Sony has said PlayStation 5 won’t release prior to April 2020. If the game is indeed in production for next-gen hardware like the PS5, we can expect a Fall 2020 release date for Marvel’s Avengers.

Of course, all of this is speculation at this point. Square Enix will shed more light on Marvel’s Avengers video game during its E3 2019 press conference which is due June 10 at 6 PM PT.
