Provinces in Total War: Three Kingdoms are called commanderies and these commanderies combine together to make up a campaign in the game. Based on which commandery it is, you make your income. The commanderies make their income from industries, peasantries, commerce and other unique factors, like silk. In this guide, we have detailed everything about Total War: Three Kingdoms Commandery in the game.

Total War: Three Kingdoms Commanderies

Commanderies have settlements from which taxes and resources and income is generated for the commandery. A Commandery consists of a commandery capital and counties.

Commandery Capital
A commandery capital is a place where you get most of your gross income. The business is mostly done here. Your buildings and units are made here and trading is done from here. You will set your industries here as well.

Commandery County
Commandery has many counties (much like cities). To view what your commandery consists you can look it from the commandery panel.

Counties are found in the commandery capital and are scattered around the whole commandery. These counties have farms and other smaller industries as well as mines to generate resources and taxes from here as well.

Commandery Boundary Codes

Boundary lines of different color codes separate your commandery. The colors represent your relationship with the commanderies on the other side of the boundary line.

Blue Boundary
Blue boundary line indicates that the commandery that is separated by this boundary is your ally. These allies help you in doing business and trade resources with you.

Red Boundary
Red boundary line indicates that the commandery that is separated by this boundary is your enemy. You do not leave these as they are in fact you declare war over these commanderies and take over them.

Although make sure that you only wage an attack when you think you have enough income in your vault to manage the army troops and resources.

White Boundary
White boundary line indicates that the commandery that is separated by this boundary is neutral. Neither does it fall in your ally commandery and nor is it your enemy.

It is on your however that if you want to leave this commandery or wage a war on it, taking it over. You do not have any harm from it anyway.

Commandery Income

Different buildings combine up to make your peasantry in a commandery. If your commandery has a larger population size then the percentage of your peasantry income will be much larger.

Based on the location of buildings for your industry and commerce in a commandery you get your base income.

Other than that, trading is a major part of your commandery income. Depending on the resources that you have to trade, for example, technology, faction or character trading, you will gain your income.

Commandery Expansion

The expansion of your commandery improves your commandery income, taxes, and food production. Constructing more buildings in your commandery will increase the population as well which in turn will boost up your peasantry income.

When you expand your commandery by constructing more buildings, keep in mind that constructing those buildings will require money and furthermore buildings have a building upkeep cost.

Hence, you cannot keep on constructing those building if you have no money in your vault. You have to keep an eye on your economy almost all the time.

Then there are the industrial buildings that depending on the commandery they are located in requires the workers for it.

The workers also require salary and soon as their ranks increase so does their job positions and salary. If you think that a building is not necessary to keep or is draining your economy, get rid of it. It will save your commandery economy.

You also have commandery armies for which units are built and these units require unit upkeep. Your armies require a huge sum of money on each turn. You will have a number of armies for the wars.

You can check how much an army is costing you and if you think that keeping that army is not necessary then you can eliminate that army for a temporary time.

Take this time to fill up your vault of money again and when you think that your economy is stable enough, you can rehire the troop.

Corruption

Due to the expansion of your commandery, your population growth will be on its peak and as the population of the commandery increases, so does the corruption.

Corruption increase decreases the Public Order and the satisfaction decreases that turns them rebellious which can be harmful to your commandery.

Tax is also reduced as the corruption in commandery increase. You have to assign administrators, assignments, constructing certain buildings and researching certain reforms in order to bring the corruption down in your commandery.

Commandery Buildings

Your commandery consists of buildings that are color-coded. The colors represent the world elements:

  1. Earth
  2. Fire
  3. Water
  4. Wood
  5. Metal

Government Buildings
Your commandery’s government buildings are represented by yellow color. Your government buildings are to maintain Public order and corruption in case of an increase in population growth. They are also tax-collecting buildings.

They increase the construction of industries as well as reduce the construction cost of Economic buildings.

Military Buildings
These buildings in your commandery are shown by the red color. These buildings are the units for your armies that you have in your commandery to protect you from enemies and wage war on them when you are prepared.

Armies and their buildings require money to build, handle, and have an upkeep price even when you are not using them.

Education and Trading Buildings
These buildings include your Trading building, schools, and hostels. All these buildings come under the same color code.

The schools bring education to your commandery whereas the trading buildings bring you profit. These buildings reduce the cost of Agricultural buildings.

Agricultural Buildings
These buildings include the farms and mines in your commandery. The buildings that are used for food storage and development also come under the same color code. Green buildings effect in reducing the cost for the Military buildings.

Economic Buildings
These buildings are held by the state or are private buildings. These buildings increase income from industry and commerce and increase the population growth that boosts up the peasantry income.

These buildings reduce the cost of the Education and Trading Buildings.

Commandery Tax

Generating tax from your faction is the main source of bringing the economy in your faction. Your commandery helps in generating the tax by different methods.

Industry buildings help in generating tax by producing resources and doing trade through them. These buildings generate a good sum of money. Depending on the location these buildings in the commandery, will you generate the tax.

Then there is commerce that generates tax from the blue buildings. When buildings generating tax are combined with the Trading buildings, the tax is multiplied and improves a lot of the economy.

There is also peasantry income that depends on the buildings being made and the population increase. As the population increases, it also boosts up the peasantry taxes.

When your faction rank increases or the characters or buildings provide bonuses, you tax generation also increases.

Garrison

Garrison force is kept maintained in a settlement in case of a surprise enemy attack. The units a garrison contains depends on the buildings that a settlement has.

When an enemy army attacks a settlement, the garrison will appear in the battle as an army under the defender’s control. If an army is also stationed in the settlement, the army and the garrison will fight together.

A garrison is bound to its settlement and cannot be ordered to leave.
