Metro Exodus Sales on Epic Games Store Exceeded Expectations

THQ Nordic CEO Lars Wingefors has confirmed that Metro Exodus sales on Epic Games Store exceeded expectations. This information was revealed in THQ Nordic’s most recent annual report.

CEO Lars Wingefors says the majority of Metro Exodus PC sales came from the Epic Games Store. In short, the statement means that the Epic Games Store is the leading digital platform for Metro Exodus in terms of sales. This also confirms the game’s successful launch on the PC platform.

Lars Wingefors said:

Epic Games store has exceeded our expectations in terms of sales in actual units of both Metro Exodus and Satisfactory during the quarter. Epic Games store is in fact the group’s leading digital platform in terms of revenue generated by units sales in the quarter ending March.

As we reported before, Wingefors previously claimed that the majority of game sales come from console platform. Many misunderstood the statement, which is why Wingefors has now provided a further explanation.

My statement yesterday about console share of Metro Exodus sales was referring to the two console platforms combined – both physical and digital revenue. This is still the majority of the revenues of Metro Exodus.

In short, this is great news for Metro Exodus developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver. In case you don’t know already, Metro Exodus was one of the first games to be exclusively available on the Epic Store after being pulled back from Stream.

Afterward, the publisher and developer both faced backlash from Metro series fans and many promised to boycott the game until it arrives on Steam. Despite all that, the sales results prove that the decision of making Metro Exodus an Epic Store exclusive paid off well.

However, looks like Epic Games will not be stealing titles from Steam anymore. In a recent Q&A, Epic Games Store head Steve Allison said that he regrets making Metro Exodus an Epic Games Store exclusive. Further, Allison said that Epic Games will not be doing anything like that ever again but that might change given the success of Metro Exodus on PC.

Metro Exodus is now available to play on Microsoft’s Xbox One, Sony’s PlayStation 4 and PC.
