NetherRealm Studio’s Mortal Kombat 11 has dethroned Kingdom Hearts 3 with over 1.8 million sales and has become April 2019’s best selling game.
According to SuperData Research, NetherRealm Studio’s Mortal Kombat 11 sold 1.8 million digital units for both consoles and PC in May. This is a tremendous increase from the 400,000 units Mortal Kombat X sold in 2015. SuperData Research estimates this is largely due to rising digital download rates on consoles such as PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Mat Piscatella, a US Video Games Industry Analyst for The NPD Group also confirmed that Mortal Kombat 11 is the best-selling game of April 2019 for both physical and digital sales of the game. Piscatella also confirms that MK11 is the number one game in the April 2019 Top 20 Sellers chart.

Earlier this week, Mortal Kombat 11 sales hit the 2nd highest in this 2019’s market. A lot of industry analysts predicted that MK 11 will continue its steady rise to the number one spot. And now, MK 11 has taken Kingdom Hearts 3’s spot as the number 1 seller in April 2019.
Of course, this didn’t come without sacrifice. Apparently, the stress was so much that one NetherRealm employee was diagnosed with PTSD due to the brutality of the game. MK 11 also received a lot of backlashes when players felt it was too grindy.
NetherRealm Studios itself came under fire when a huge amount of employees stood up and exposed the company for excessive crunch time along with predatory hostile behavior in the workplace.
Even though there has been a lot of controversy surrounding Mortal Kombat 11, NetherRealm Studios can finally bask in the success of their game being April 2019’s number one best seller.
Meanwhile, you can look forward to the upcoming patch/update which will fix the FPS drops many Mortal Kombat 11 players complained about.
