Following closely behind Kingdom Hearts 3 as the number 1 seller, Mortal Kombat 11 sales hit the 2nd highest in this year’s market. It’s not too surprising for a Mortal Kombat game to do well. The consistency never ceases to amaze however, Mortal Kombat 11 has definitely been the best in the series.
Considering the sacrifices developers have put into the game, it’s good to see their hard work pay off. Take a look:
Mortal Kombat 11 is the latest installment in NetherRealm Studios’ long list of fighting games dating back to the 90s. The game was revealed to us during the Video Game Awards of 2018 and seems to have retained most of the hype it generated.
Mortal Kombat 11 sales are exceedingly high despite the controversy surrounding the game. I’ll ignore the issues that were political since I hate mixing up politics with video games.
The real issue I’d like to address is regarding the microtransactions. Reportedly the new Mortal Kombat 11 patch has made it easier to earn currency while also making the tower fights less unfair.
That doesn’t seem to have hampered the Mortal Kombat 11 sales numbers, however. We’re also likely to see a further increase in them following the incoming announcement of Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters. DLC is something fighting games tend to bank on a lot and it looks like NetherRealm Studios will be doing the same thing.
We only know about Shang Tsung so far, but even with that knowledge, an official Mortal Kombat 11 DLC release date remains unconfirmed.
Considering the sales contenders for video games in 2019 also consisted of Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, Devil May Cry 5 and the Resident Evil 2 remake, it’s pretty cool to see Mortal Kombat 11 sales rank up at number 2.
Debatably hailed as the king of fighter games, MK proves once again that the fanbase to this day are very strong.
Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Switch. An FPS issue fix is expected to hit the servers soon.
