Total War Three Kingdoms DLC Promises New “Chapters”, Pre-Load Date Revealed

The main draw of Creative Assembly’s upcoming Total War Three Kingdoms, is that you’ll be able to experience the epic battles and great heroes of that period. But the Total War Three Kingdoms DLC that the developers have promised after release are promising to kick that up a notch soon.

According to previous dev diaries, Total War: Three Kingdom’s “endgame” period will start with the actual beginning of the Three Kingdoms period, while the initial hostilities are directed at the warlord Dong Zhuo, who had usurped the authority of the child Chinese Emperor.

Towards the end of the campaign, you will be able to declare yourself the “rightful” Emperor of China, causing the other three major factions to also declare themselves Emperor and thus forming the states of Wu, Shu, and Wei, the warring kingdoms of the book.

The Total War Three Kingdoms DLC will be taking the form of “Chapter Packs”, which will allow players to engage in a number of mini-campaigns taken from various famous battles of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the time period where the game takes place.

This means that players will be able to take on the role of a commander in various major battles, such as the events surrounding the Battle of Red Cliff (the most famous battle) and more.

According to Creative Assembly, this will only be the start, as well. While they didn’t go into more detail, they used the word “initially” to refer to the Chapter Packs, making it clear that the rest of the Total War Three Kingdoms DLC might have something different involved.

Along with the DLC talk, Creative Assembly announced that the pre-load date for Total War: Three Kingdoms would be happening today. The game will be available for pre-order owners to install on their machines at 6 PM BST on May 20, today. The game, however, will only fully unlock on launch day, 8 AM BST on May 23, Thursday.

If you pre-ordered the game, or buy it in the first week, you’ll also get the Yellow Turban Rebellion DLC for free, but otherwise you should clear your schedule ahead of the game’s release. The game will be coming out exclusively on the PC.
