Sony PlayStation fans received the long-awaited PSN name change feature earlier this year. Sony released an update for PS4 users that allow them to change their PlayStation Network IDs.

Changing your PSN ID is free of cost for the first time on PlayStation 4 or via your browser. However, multiple PSN name changes will cost you $9.99 each. For PS Plus subscribers the cost of each PSN name change drops to $5 on PS4. Keep in mind that changing your PSN ID via PS3 and PS Vita isn’t possible. If you do not own a PS4 console you can change your PSN name via your desktop browser.

PlayStation 4:

  • Step 1: From your PS4 go to [Settings].
  • Step 2: Select [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Profile] > [Online ID].
  • Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.
  • Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

Web browser:

  • Step 1: Sign in to your PlayStation Network account and select PSN Profile in the menu.
  • Step 2: Select the Edit button that’s next to your Online ID.
  • Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.
  • Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

PSN Name Change Known Issues And Fixes

Sony tested the feature before its public release and found a number of PS4 games not responding well to the changes. PlayStation released a list of games that had issues with the newly released feature ID change feature. PlayStation’s director of Social Media stated that any PS4 game published on or after April 2018 should support this feature but not all have been tested properly. Games like Fortnite and Destiny 2 sometimes end up experiencing issues with PSN name changes.

These games may experience one of the following issues.
