Yoko Taro’s 2017 masterpiece Nier Automata continues to be an astounding success, as Nier Automata sales have now broken four million in physical and digital sales combined. The game made a fourth of that number in the space of a month back during its original release in 2017, on the Playstation 4 and PC.
Nier Automata is a sequel, of sorts, to the original Nier game that came out in 2010. Focusing on a war between androids loyal to humans and a race of rogue robots on Earth, the game combined Platinum Games’s peerless character action with Yoko Taro’s unparalleled storytelling.
Nier Automata won critical acclaim when it released, and went on to become a sales juggernaut, hence the reason that Nier Automata sales have reached four million in the space of just two years. Nier Automata’s popularity has even extended to other games.
For instance, central character 2B was selected to be (snrk) a DLC character in Soul Calibur 6, armed with both her Pod robot helper and the swords that she keeps on her back. Nier Automata will also be figuring into Final Fantasy 14’s upcoming Shadowbringers expansion.
Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito, who both worked on Automata, will be serving as guest creators, helping to pen the story for Final Fantasy 14’s upcoming 24-man instance “YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse”, which might even feature 2B (or at least her clothing) in its story.
Nier Automata also got an updated Game of the Year (or rather, “YoRHa”) edition that includes a variety of DLC including new skins for your Pod, a mask for 2B to wear, bonus content, a set of avatars, and a dynamic theme for your Playstation 4.
So, if you haven’t contributed to the Nier Automata sales yet, now would be the perfect time to get into the game, especially if you’re either a Platinum Games fan, a Yoko Taro fan, or are just looking for a game to tide you over for a while. You can buy Nier Automata on the Playstation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
