Sucker Punch Artist Fixes Sonic The Hedgehog and Fans are Loving It

Ever since it was announced that a live action movie was in production, fans of Sonic The Hedgehog have been waiting impatiently to see how the speedster would appear on the big screen. Just 3 days after Paramount Pictures unveiled the first official trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog movie, fans have taken upon themselves to show what Sonic would look if he was more… in line with the source material.

Fans were outraged the minute Paramount Pictures posted the trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog on YouTube. The trailer in question featured a new look for the character. This new look was one that hasn’t been seen before in any medium and one that is massively different from what fans were expecting.

Soon after, the internet started creating memes to mock how weird the Sonic looked in the trailer. At the time of writing, the official Sonic The Hedgehog trailer on Paramount Pictures’ YouTube channel has 482K dislikes with only 285K likes.

There were also those who took upon themselves to show the studio how Sonic should’ve looked like in the movie. Edward Pun, an artist working for Sucker Punch studios, took a screenshot from the trailer and modified it to make the live action Sonic more fan friendly.

Pun’s redesign was met with a lot of praise. A lot of people agreed with his modifications. At the time of writing this, his original Tweet sits at 4.5K Replies, 79K Retweets, and more than 300,000 Likes.

Fans are accustomed to seeing Sonic in a certain way; big eyes, fluffy fur, and an overall cartoon-styled look. Sonic The Hedgehog movie went in a different direction. Nowadays, it seems Hollywood is all about that realistic vibe. The studio chose to make him look taller with his arms and legs more human-like, which resulted in him looking more like an abomination than a realistic figure.

If you are disappointed by the trailer too and would like to see how Sonic would look like in a photo-realistic environment, check out what YouTuber CryZENx did when he put Sonic in an Unreal Engine 4 demo called “A Boy & His Kite”. Quite frankly, it looks more realistic than the Sonic The Hedgehog movie trailer.

After the massive backlash from fans, the studio has said that they will do everything they can to improve Sonic’s look in the movie. Just how big of an improvement they’ll make is yet to be seen. The best fans can do is sit back, relax, and wait till the studio reveals the next trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog.

Sonic The Hedgehog movie is being developed by SEGA and Paramount Pictures with a release date in November 2019.
