Mortal Kombat 11 had the most successful launch in the franchise’s 27-year history, according to David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. This milestone was shared by Haddad at the 2019 GamesBeat Summit today in Los Angeles.
The news comes out a day after the fighting game by NetherRealm Studios launched on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It’s a big achievement for the publisher despite the early complaints about the game’s microtransactions. Moreover, it’s worth noticing that the series director Ed Boon is still working on MK games since the first game came out in 1992.
Haddad decided to not reveal any Mortal Kombat 11 sales figure during his discussion about the game. However, he did say that the game had the biggest and most successful launch in Warner Bros. Games’ history in the Americas.
I couldn’t be more proud of that team and what they’ve done and the innovations they’ve brought to Mortal Kombat, Haddad said.
President of Warner Bros. then continued to talk about the future plans for the game. He promised that NetherRealm will continue to add more content to the game including new characters, skins or outfits. Mortal Kombat 11 has “years of new content” to come in the future, said Haddad. This doesn’t come as a surprise because NetherRealm has already confirmed that MK 11 will be the longest-supported game in the history of Mortal Kombat series.
Haddad didn’t unveil the release date for game’s first DLC or talked about the upcoming content for Mortal Kombat 11. It’s soon to say but we can expect the first DLC to arrive in June.
The developer has already unveiled the first DLC fight that the players will get to play in the game. It’s none other than Shang Tsung. Details about the rest of DLC fighters are very scarce at the moment.
Characters like Joker, Terminator and Ash Williams from The Evil Dead are likely to come down the road, according to data miners. It’s nothing but a rumor for now.
Mortal Kombat 11 is indeed fun to play and the early reviews of the game have made it clear. The only thing that’s bothering everyone is the game’s economy, which is going to be tweaked soon in an upcoming server-side update.
The developer is also going to address AI difficulty and modifiers in the Towers in the next update as the fans requested. Despite the changes, certain aspects of the mode will remain challenging. In addition to that, NetherRealm has announced that they are going to give free in-game currency to Mortal Kombat 11 players with a bundle soon.
Mortal Kombat 11 is now available to play on Microsoft’s Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Sony’s PlayStation 4.
