Mortal Kombat 11 Notations Guide – Universal Inputs for Combos

Notations are a part of almost all of the fighting games. These universal notational inputs depict either the corresponding buttons or mechanics to an input of the game.

For the most part, the notations in most fighting games are similar, however, for some games, there’re different mechanics so there’re different notations. In our Mortal Kombat 11 Guide, we’ve outlined all the notations that’re universal for combos.

Mortal Kombat 11 Notations

Notations are mostly used in order to represent how to perform a certain move or a combo. An example would be:

  • f + 1
  • d/f + 2
  • b, f + 1
  • 1, 2, f + 3

These’re not hieroglyphs. They represent a certain move. I’ll help you translate and understand all of these and provide some examples of these below along with what they represent.

Basics

  • b – Back
  • u – Up
  • f – Forward
  • d – Down
  • d/f – Down-forward
  • d/b – Down-back
  • u/f – Up-forward
  • u/b – Up-back
  • 1 – Left Punch
  • 2 – Right Punch
  • 3 – Left Kick
  • 4 – Right Kick
  • + – Input needs to be together
  • xx – Cancel

Core Mechanics

  • KB – Krushing Blow
  • AMP – Amplify
  • SH – Short Hop (!)
  • SO – Stamina Offensive Bar
  • SD – Stamina Defensive Bar
  • PB – Perfect Block
  • FB – Fatal Blow
  • OH – Overhead
  • UB – Unblockable

Additional Movement Shortcuts

  • ff – Forward Dash
  • bb – Back Dash
  • NJP – Neutral Jump and Punch
  • JIP – Jump and Punch
  • JIK – Jump and Kick

Although this is a very short list, you don’t have to memorize it. Playing the game a while and getting help from the community for the combos will eventually make you learn these.

Examples

  • f + 1 = Forward + Left Punch
  • f + 2 = Forward + Right Punch
  • d + 3 = Down + Left Kick
  • d + 4 = Down + Right Kick

Special Moves

  • d/f + 1 = Down/Forward + Left Punch
  • b, f + 2 = Back, Forward + Right Punch

Throws

  • d/b, f + 1 = Down + Back + Forward + Left Punch

Strings

  • 1, 2, f + 3 = Left Punch, Right Punch, Forward + Left Kick
  • 3, 2, 1, 4 = Left Kick, Right Punch, Left Punch + Right Kick
  • 1, 2, 4 = Left Punch, Right Punch, Right Kick
  • F + 2, 1 = Hold Forward + Right Punch, Left Punch
  • 1, 1, 2 = Left Punch, Left Punch, Right Punch

Combos

  • NJP, 2, D + 2, 1 = Neutral Jump Punch, Right Punch, down/right Punch + Left Punch
  • NJP, 2, uf + 3, FB = Neutral Jump Punch, Right Punch, Up/Forward + Left Kick then Fatal Blow
