Rage 2’s Installation File Size Is Quite Large

Id Software and Avalanche Studio’s Rage 2, the upcoming Mad Max-inspired post-apocalyptic shooter is right around the corner. Since the original Rage was criticized due to its small size, Rage 2 will feature a relatively bigger world as compared to the original. But making a bigger game means bigger file size for Rage 2.

According to Microsoft’s Store, Rage 2 will have a  30.83GB installation file size for the Xbox One, this can give you some idea what the Rage 2 file size will be for PS4 and PC. There might be a difference of one or two GBs but that’s common with different hardware.

Compared to other open-world titles, Rage 2’s file size is actually pretty small. For example, Rockstar Games’ latest title Red Dead Redemption 2 had a file size of 88 GB on the Xbox One and 105 GB on the PlayStation 4.

The equation is actually quite simple, the more features a game has, the more data it will take for assets, maps, sound files, etc. Avalanche Studios and id software are already trying to make the game feel more immersive. The game will feature “a vast and varied landscape, from lush jungles and treacherous swamps to sun-scorched deserts” which is why Rage 2 has such a large installation file size.

Id Software studio director, Tim Willits, confirmed that the Rage 2 will be playable without an internet connection, even though it is an always-online game. This means the base game will have enough content to keep players busy and remain available regardless of an internet connection.

Rage 2 is an FPS post-apocalyptic video game by Avalanche Studios and id Software, published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is set to release May 14, 2019,  for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Preorders for Rage 2 are open and will come with cheat codes as a bonus.
