Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts 3 will be getting a new update tomorrow. The major update will also add the long-awaited Critical Mode to the Disney and Pixar-themed role-playing game.
Fans of the series have been asking for a critical mode in Kingdom Hearts 3 for a while now. During an interview, last month, Kingdom Hearts 3’s co-director Tai Yasue spoke about the game’s difficulty system. Although he said that the main focus of the core-gameplay of KH3 was at its story and not the difficulty, he did acknowledge how Critical Mode was an important part of the previous installments.
“[…] we did get a lot of [responses] saying [fans] wanted more difficult modes, so we gave them critical mode”
Yesterday, Kingdom Hearts creator Tetsuya Nomura posted a Tweet via Kingdom Hearts official account, saying that the game will be getting a free update on April 23. The new update will add the long-awaited Critical Mode to Kingdom Hearts 3.
Greetings, it’s been a while since I last posted. Spring is here, and I hope everyone is doing well. #KingdomHearts III’s long-awaited Critical Mode is available as a free update tomorrow (PT).

This is definitely good news for fans of the series who found boss battles too easy. The new critical mode will affect core gameplay mechanics such as increasing how much damage is taken and dealt, limiting AP or HP gains, increasing enemy health points and more. It is likely that Critical Mode in Kingdom Hearts 3 will differ from previous iterations.
It is yet to be seen how Square Enix will change things up and do something different. The new Kingdom Hearts 3 update will be going live during the early hours of 23rd April 2019. All you need to do is update your game once its available to access the Critical Mode.
Kingdom Hearts III is an Role Playing Game by Square Enix for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and is now available for purchase on both platforms.
