Troy Baker Calls Out Randy Pitchford Over Rhys in Borderlands 3

Troy Baker has now confirmed again that it was Gearbox Software who turned his role down as Rhys in Borderlands 3. Troy Baker “would love to come back” to reprise his role as Rhys once again.

In case you don’t already know, there’s an interesting story trending involving Troy Baker (famous voice actor) and Gearbox Studios over a role in Borderlands 3. In a recent interview at Supanova Comic Con & Gaming, OnlySP asked Baker about his previous comments about not returning as Rhys in the upcoming Borderlands game.

I said I would love to come back. They [Gearbox Software] said I’m not coming back. Their timeline tells an interesting story. I think it’s interesting that Randy Pitchford tweeted out that I turned it down, and then he said he heard that I turned it down. I would fact check before I tweeted out to the internet, said Baker.

The Tweets he’s referring to are the ones in which Gearbox Software’s Randy Pitchford said that it was Baker who turned down the offer to play Rhys, making the whole situation more confusing than before.

It seems like Baker wasn’t the only one who was snubbed. Nolan North, another famous voice actor who was sitting next to Baker also stepped in to question the whereabouts of August ( a character voiced by him in Tales from the Borderlands) and Patrick Warburton’s Hugo Vasquez.

Nevertheless, it’s confirmed that we are not going to hear Baker’s voice in Borderlands 3. Many fans are disappointed but it’s not like there are no alternative actors who can voice the character justly. Fans are also regarding Gearbox’s move to not hire original voice actors and its Epic Store exclusivity as a way to just make money.

At least, we know that the veteran voice actor “Ashly Burch” is returning to reprise her role as Tiny Tina in Borderlands 3. This was confirmed by CEO Randy Pitchford.

Tina first is one of the most beloved characters in the Borderlands franchise. She first appeared in Borderlands 2 and even got her own DLC called Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep. Apart from her, it’s rumored that Rapper Ice-T will be voicing a character in Borderlands 3 too.

In the end, it’s still undecided whether Randy Pitchford is lying or if Troy doesn’t know what actually happened. Whatever it is, things are not looking great for both.

Borderlands 3 published by 2K Games will release on September 13, 2019, for Sony’s PlayStation 4, Microsoft’s Xbox One and PC.
