Although there haven’t been many details regarding what fans will get to see in Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, new listings on Microsoft’s Store and a PS Blog post reveal some important information as well as some cool artwork of Respawn Entertainment’s latest action game set in A Galaxy Far, Far Away.
The information comes directly from the store listing’s description section. It reveals that players will get to experience a “galaxy-spanning adventure.” They will be put into the shoes of a Padawan who managed to escape the dangerous Order 66. The game takes place right after the execution of Order 66 in Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith.
The new Jedi will take the responsibility of rebuilding the fallen Jedi Order. Players will also get a chance to train and upgrade their new “Force abilities” and their lightsaber combat skills. Mechanics such as “striking, parrying, dodging” will be present in the gameplay which will apparently lead to “cinematically-charged lightsaber and Force combat.”
Star Wars fans have been waiting for over a decade to see a game properly nail this combination of Force powers and lightsaber battles.
The information also reveals players will need to fight for survival while exploring the mysteries of a long-extinct civilization all in an effort to rebuild the Fallen Jedi Order as the Empire seeks to erase the Jedi completely. It is likely our character will be hunted down by the empire or we’ll be chased by bounty hunters seeking to claim their prize.
We also learn more about the game’s opposing force, the Empire, which will expand its deadly dominion across the galaxy and will send “its deadly Inquisitors” chasing after young Cal Kestis.
Players will then team up with “a former Jedi Knight, a cantankerous pilot, and a fearless droid,” and together they “must escape the evil machinations of the Empire in a story-driven adventure. Explore and overcome a wide range of challenges focused on combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving.”
All of this could work similarly to Star Wars The Force Unleashed but Respawn will have to focus on a major expansion across character interaction, narrative, and gameplay mechanics.
The game will also feature a plethora of different environments ranging from “ancient forests, windswept rock faces, and haunted jungles”. According to the information, these environments will function as a backdrop for a narrative-driven experience in Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order.
The PS blog also shares some great concept art of the characters and environment that are definitely worth the look.
This is perhaps one of the most important titles by Respawn as they had to pause working on Titanfall 3 to work on Fallen Order. From what the listing describes, it seems the game could go in a similar direction to Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if they manage to pull it off.
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order pre-orders are now live on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Players can pre-order The Deluxe Edition for $70 or the base edition for $60. According to PlayStation Store, the game will unlock at 12 am eastern time, November 15 on PlayStation 4.
