Apple’s “Apple Arcade” Comes To Compete With Google Stadia, PlayStation Now

Yesterday, Apple took its own step in gaming by announcing a new games subscription service called “Apple Arcade.” It will feature over 100 new and exclusive games which include original releases from renowned creators such as Hironobu Sakaguchi, Ken Wong, Will Wright and dozens more. The service will take Google Stadia head on but will it be successful?

Apple has said that every game will be playable offline, no internet is needed. Future game updates and DLCs will be included within the Apple Arcade subscription charges and will have no extra cost. Players will be able to pick up on other devices right where they left off.

Apple Arcade will have its own tab on the App Store, and the games will have no ads and no microtransactions.

Apple says it will be “contributing to the development costs and working closely with creators to bring the games to life,” this suggests that Apple will do more than just pay developers for their games to be included.

Phil Schiller, the Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple has said

The App Store is the world’s biggest and most successful game platform. Now we are going to take games even further with Apple Arcade, the first game subscription service for mobile, desktop and the living room.

He went on to say:

We are working with some of the most innovative game developers in the world to create over 100 new and exclusive games to play across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. Apple Arcade games will be great for families, respect user privacy and will not have ads or require any additional purchases. We think players of all ages are going to love Apple Arcade.

Apple Arcade will be available in 150 countries sometime around later this year.

Right now, there is no information on how much it will cost. Apple has said pricing and more details will be announced later on. Apple also announced Apple Tv Plus to compete with Netflix. The company seems to be diversifying its revenue streams after iPhone sales slowing down across the globe.

Google Stadia and Netflix are going to be the biggest competitors of Apple Arcade and Apple Tv Plus.  Stadia is at a disadvantage as you will always require an internet connection to play. Lag and Latency is also an issue for Stadia which Google claims won’t affect player experience. More details about Apple Tv Plus, Google Stadia, and Apple Arcade will be shared later on.
