Death Stranding, the mysterious game by Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has finally entered “critical phase” in development. The creator revealed this information in a recent Tweet and confirmed that the game has not reached its debugging phase. However, Kojima himself is testing Death Stranding daily by playing it.
The team at Kojima Productions is still not done as they have yet to combine all of the elements they have created to form Death Stranding. Kojima is playing the game daily to test what features work best for the final build.
Here’s the translated version of his Tweet by Aki Saito, head of marketing and communications at Kojima Productions.
Death Stranding is not yet in the debugging stage, but is currently having all the game elements and tools from different development systems combined into the game. It’s a process that involves connecting the parts, adding feeling, looking over the production, the specifications, looking out for trouble, taking things out and adding things in. I’m playing the game on PlayStation 4 every day. It’s a critical phase.
The most interesting thing to take out from the Tweet is that the game is being played on PlayStation 4 which means that we are not very far away from the reveal of its release date. It still remains to be seen if it’s going to be one of the last titles for PlayStation 4 by Sony or if it makes way to the next-gen on PlayStation 5. It’s expected to be a cross-gen title just like The Last of Us which later released on PS4 after its first arrival on PS3.
With that said, we are expecting to see Death Stranding at least in some form at the upcoming first State of Play show by PlayStation. State of Play is kind of like Sony’s version of Nintendo Direct or Inside Xbox broadcast. The very first episode of the show is scheduled to be streamed today, 25th March, at 9 PM UK, 2 PM PT and 5 PM ET time. It’s said to be filled with “updates and announcements from the world of PlayStation” so what could be a better way than to start it off with a Death Stranding trailer.
The last time we saw a new trailer for Death Stranding was last year, a small tease which gave us more to speculate about. Hopes for a new Death Stranding trailer are high thanks to Sony’s State of Play.
We have lately been getting new updates about Kojima’s next project. It was revealed earlier this month by the developer that the game is slightly behind schedule. The game’s story still remains a mystery and if you think you understand it from the cryptic trailers then it’s not what you think it is.
Moreover, next month Hideo Kojima will be at the Tribeca Film Festival to discuss Death Stranding. Tribeca Film Festival is scheduled for April 25 at 6 p.m. ET at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center.
Death Stranding is in development exclusively for PlayStation 4.
