The Epic Games Store, despite its noble intentions, has been rubbing a lot of gamers the wrong way lately. Various hot new games coming out have been snatched up by the company to be sold exclusively on the store, and some gamers are wondering if we’ll see Borderlands 3 on the Epic Games Store too.
The Epic Games Store has only been around for a few months, and in that time it’s managed to grab a lot of different anticipated PC games. Various games like Ashen, Metro Exodus, Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds, The Division 2, and more have all been slated to appear exclusively on the store for at least a year before moving on to other clients like Steam.
Considering how dominant Steam is, and how much most gamers like having all of their games in one place, Epic Games has proven to be a thorn in the side of many gamers despite its selection. It’s for that purpose that many gamers are worried that we’ll see Borderlands 3 on the Epic Games Store, mainly because if you don’t want to use the Epic Store, then you’ll have to wait a year to play it.
Since Borderlands fans have had to wait multiple years to play another Borderlands game (at least, one that’s not the Tales from the Borderlands game released by Telltale Games), and are eagerly awaiting news of a third Borderlands game, it’s not an unfounded fear to have. The backlash from seeing Borderlands 3 on the Epic Games Store might even rival that of Metro Exodus’s announcement.
In the Exodus announcement, publisher Deep Silver actually fired back at its fans, saying that if they didn’t like the game being on a non-Steam platform then the publisher would just stop having games developed for PC. Not only is it childish, but there are a wide variety of games that, like Exodus, had games on Steam already before Epic took them.
If Borderlands 3 pre-orders go the same way, the backlash may be even bigger, but until then we’ll have to see if we end up getting Borderlands 3 on the Epic Games Store.
