Electronic Arts paid $1 million to videogame streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins to play and promote Apex Legends at launch, reports Reuters source.
If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past two years, you already know about Ninja. Tyler Blevins, AKA Ninja, is a videogame streamer with over 13 million followers on Twitch. He is best known for streaming Fortnite.
He has a following of 13.6 million-plus on Twitch alone, a Twitter following of over 4 million and Instagram audience of over 13.2 million.
Ninja streamed Apex Legends on his twitch channel on Feb 5, 2019. He also sent out a tweet about the initial stream. The combination of both Ninja’s live-streaming and social media promotions helped Apex Legends gain a massive spike in player base ever since its launch. The game had no initial marketing prior to its launch, the game was just launched the same day it was announced.

There hasn’t been any official word from the representatives for EA or Ninja. Both parties have declined to comment on the matter. There has been quite a lot of internet speculation going on regarding what Ninja earns through his regular appearances on Fortnite and his monthly earnings from streaming. But the amount the source reported is way more than the speculation.
This year, we saw “Apex Legends” totally dominate the battle-royale scene. The game had a player base of 50 million in less than 30 days. This is way more than “Fortnite” which took almost 100 days to reach 45 million players. Apex Legends has a player count of more than 200 million and does not seem to stop anytime soon.
It’s clear that Ninja played an important role in making Apex Legends the massive fan favorite battle royale game it is today. But was that role worth the $1 million?
Apex Legends is a battle royale game by Respawn Entertainment for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
