Disney India Shamelessly Refusing Millions of Women Access to Captain Marvel

Update 2: It is now confirmed that there is a bidding war taking place within Pakistan. The current distributor, Eveready Group of Companies, has been importing Disney films for five years, however, a new unnamed player has offered Disney three times more money to bring Captain Marvel and End Game among other Disney films to Pakistan.

Update: There are reports of a dispute between the local distributors and Disney’s regional office over pending payments. However, nothing is confirmed so far as multiple varying reports are flying across the internet at the moment. We are still waiting to hear back from Disney International offices. Only Disney can clarify the reason behind the current situation. Interestingly, another Disney film, Dumbo, is releasing in Pakistan on March 28. The release of the animated film doesn’t bode well for reports of payment disputes.

Original Story: Reportedly, Disney India is shamelessly refusing the release of Captain Marvel in Pakistan over the current political climate. Mahesh Samat is the current head of distribution in South Asia and due to the current situation between India and Pakistan, the distribution is halted.

Captain Marvel is the first Marvel female-led film. The character played by the talented Brie Larson is being marketed as a symbol of women empowerment around the world. India and Pakistan are two countries where the patriarchal system runs society.

Women around the country were looking forward to the release of Captain Marvel, however, they will not be able to see the movie.

Reportedly, the problem is the current political situation between the two countries which could also affect the release of Marvel’s Avenger’s End Game.

In a public statement, IMAX Pakistan apologized to the public and confirmed that Disney India is refusing distribution.

Hey fans! We truly admire your anticipation for watching Captain Marvel in your nearest Cinepax cinemas. We realize the wait must have made you wonder if it was merely a delay in the release date or else. We are sad to announce that the Disney’s regional office didn’t give Pakistan the rights to run Captain Marvel. Hence, Captain Marvel is not releasing in Pakistan.

Whether the reason is the current border tensions between the two nuclear powers or something else entirely, Disney India is refusing millions of women access to Captain Marvel in Pakistan over politics it seems.

We are trying to reach IMAX Pakistan and other local cinemas for further information about the whole situation. We will see if official sources can confirm or deny reports of India politicizing the release of Captain Marvel. Although on the surface, this does seem to be the case.
