Battle royale genre has been around for a while but it was only when PUBG came out, battle royale became the biggest money maker in the industry today. There are many battle royale games around like Fortnite, Apex Legends, PUBG, Battlefield V Firestorm and many more. However, a new contender may soon arrive to challenge everyone.
After so many years leading the development of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the creator of PUBG, Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene has separated himself from Battlegrounds. PUBG art director Tae-seok Jang and the rest of the PUBG team will continue working on the game’s development. New content updates and improvements will roll out as planned.
She shared a statement about his departure on Twitter:
The past five years of my life has been all about battle royale. From the early days working on a mod to getting the chance to create my vision for a battle royale title, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. It’s been an incredible journey and our game has reached heights I never thought possible. Seeing the game grow into what it is today has been a dream come true and I can’t thank our fans and the incredible team at PUBG Corporation enough.
Greene has years of experience working on battle royale and will no explore new tools, gameplay, and tech to create unique experiences. He is now part of PUBG Special Projects that are focused on creating new games within the company.
It is likely that his next game will also be a unique take on battle royale genre. He has years worth of experience working on PUBG and the release of games like Apex Legends has pushed devs to innovate battle royale.
