Square Enix has announced that there are two new Octopath Traveler games in the works, several months after the original hit RPG made it to the Nintendo Switch. One game will be a free-to-play RPG for mobile phones, while a sequel is also in the works for console platforms.
The original Octopath Traveler game put you in the role of eight different characters with a variety of different jobs, ranging from a merchant to a ranger to a warrior and more. The eight, banding together during the story, then set out to defeat a rising evil that threatens the entire world.
The mobile game is a prequel that takes place several years before the original Octopath Traveler happens. The game, called Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha, will be free-to-play, single-player, and will have microtransactions. Aside from it being a prequel to the original game we don’t know what it’s about. The game is also only currently going to be released in Japan, and Square Enix doesn’t know if it’ll ever come to the West.
However, considering most of Square Enix’s games already come to the West, and since Octopath Traveler was such a big success all over the world, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t. If it does, however, there still needs to be a release date for it, and even now in 2019 we don’t know when the game will be released in Japan.
The second of the two new Octopath Traveler games is another game set in the same universe, though whether it’s a sequel or something else remains to be seen. We don’t even know much about it, just that it will be another Octopath Traveler game, and will be coming out for consoles.
However it ends up, hopefully both of the new Octopath Traveler games will end up being just as good as the original.
