After remaining the COO and President of Nintendo of America for almost 15 years, Reggie Fils-Aime recently announced that he will be retiring as the company’s beloved leader with Doug Bowser to succeed his position.
Soulja Boy claims that he is the one responsible for “making” him retire. After Reggie posted an announcement video on Twitter thanking the entire Nintendo community, fans from all across the world left respectful and heartfelt replies.
“Yep, I’m retiring,” Fils-Aime said.
“In April, I’ll be dropping the title that’s meant so much to me, president of Nintendo of America. But I’ll retain one that means, even more, Nintendo fan. From the bottom of my heart, thanks for everything, you are the best.”
Fils-Aime commended Doug Bowser saying that “with a name like Bowser, who better to hold the keys to the Nintendo castle?”
Even Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Retweeted the video and said
“Congrats on such a prolific and epic career amigo. Way to impact lives – mine included! Thanks for creating fun”
While Fils-Aime was receiving all this love from his fans, Soulja Boy took to Twitter to claim that he made Fils-Aime retire.
Retweeting the original video, Soulja had this to say,
“I made him retire”
Of course, we all remember Soulja Boy’s entry into the hardware market when he launched his own line of consoles: the $99 SouljaGame Handheld and $149 SouljaGame Console. The games ended up being nothing but emulated ROMs.
This was clearly a problem for Soulja Boy as Nintendo informed Soulja Boy they may charge him for violating the Trademark Counterfeiting Act and he ended up pulling his “consoles” off the shelves.
Soulja claimed that this controversy was the basis of his retirement. The backlash Soulja received for this was very… “Spicy”.
Spawn Wave saying “Oh wow, this Tweet went over as well as your game console.”
And Masahiro Sakurai – the creator of the Kirby and Super Smash Bros saying “You’ll be the one retiring when our corporate lawyers get at you.”
Will Soulja Boy learn from this? Probably not. Will he stop? Who knows, but we’ll keep you posted right here!
