NBA 2K Playgrounds is getting a free DLC later this week which aims to raise awareness for safe schools in partnership with a non-profit organization “Safe Schools for Alex”. Saber Interactive and 2K announced this positive campaign in the latest press release.
The special DLC arrives on March 7th, 2019 and adds a special basketball court that highlights the Safe Schools for Alex which aims to keep the children safe all across America. Like me, you might know the NBA 2K Playgrounds basketball franchise but not the organization.
Safe Schools for Alex is an organization created by Max Schachter, whose son, Alex, was one of the 17 victims of the sad tragedy that took place at a school in Parkland, Florida. The main purpose of the initiative is to create a better and safe environment for students in schools. It ensures that the schools are able to protect their students and teachers in such cases.
We are honored to be able to use our platform to give back to such an important cause. Max has been my friend since childhood, and I’m very proud of all that he is accomplishing on behalf of children across America in honor of his son, Alex,” says Matt Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive.
Besides that, there are some other features included in the upcoming NBA 2K Playgrounds update as follows.
- A custom court
- Sounds from celebrities, athletes and Influencers
- The game soundtrack will be updated to add Chicago’s hit song “25 or 6 to 4″ which is performed by Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Jazz Band
- A rap by Robert Matthew Van Winkle who’s known as Vanilla Ice
The developer has also announced to match all the donation made to Safe Schools up to $100,000.
Our mission is to make schools a safer place, and we couldn’t do it without the support of these companies, as well as the people around the country that believe in us, said Max Schachter.
As for the game, it takes inspiration from NBA Jam and Street. It’s an arcade-style basketball game and has a huge roster of over 200 active and former NBA Stars. The game supports 2v2 matches and you can play it solo or against AI, co-op with a friend or with random online players.
NBA Playgrounds developed by Saber Interactive and published by Mad Dog Games is available to play on Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
