The next God of War is a highly anticipated game from Sony Santa Monica. The story of the latest installment ended on a very interesting note and we are going to discuss how this may lead to the God of War Fimbulwinter. Keep in mind that there are major story spoilers for God of War PS4 and possibly God of War 5 in the article below. If you haven’t played the last game, it is best to avoid reading on.
Now that you have been warned, here’s what we think may happen with God of War 5. Thanks to the events of God of War 4 we know Kratos and his son Atreus have unknowingly triggered Ragnarok. For those unaware, Ragnarok is the end of times in Norse Mythology.
Along their journey, God of War and Atreus triggered the apocalypse. Not only this, but both father and son killed Odin’s son Baldur and Thor’s children as well. Odin and Thor will come for Kratos and Atreus, however, the underlying plot is going to revolve around Ragnarok.
We already know there are multiple God of War games in the works, at least they plan to create multiple games set in the Norse Mythology. So while we know Ragnarok is coming, it’ll be an event that’s likely going to be spread across multiple games.
God of War 5, which we think is going to be called Fimbulwinter, is going to showcase the events leading up to Ragnarok.
The events leading up to Ragnarok include something called Fimbulwinter, the storm before the end. In Norse Mythology, Fimbulwinter is the harsh winter that arrives prior to the end of everything. It puts an end to like with three consecutive winter seasons. During three years of winters, there will unstoppable wars.
It is said that only two will survive the events of Fimbulwinter, Líf and Lífþrasir (man and a woman) who hid in the forests of Hoddmímis holt.
Fimbulwinter is a sign of Ragnarok so it is safe to say God of War 5 could be named God of War Fimbulwinter. Sony’s Santa Monica’s next game is expected to release on PlayStation 5 sometime in the next two years.
