Sony To Slightly Shift Its Focus Towards Multiplayer Games For PlayStation 5

Anyone that purchased a PS4 last year for the sweet exclusives knows that the platform emphasized on single player games. Regarding that, Shawn Layden spoke out about his plans with the PS5. He specifically mentioned PlayStation 5 multiplayer games, exclusives that were lacking in the PS4’s run.

Worldwide Studios, like I say, we’ve been going really heavy into story-driven gaming. The power of the narrative. Big, spectacular experiences. But not a whole lot in the multiplayer side of things, I think. That’s an area where you will likely see us start to make more noise in the new term.

This is contrary to what Sony had said about the next chapter of cinematic storytelling. The emphasis on single player games is definitely still there, but Sony would also like to cover for its multiplayer drawbacks.

The multiplayer side of gaming is definitely more profitable in comparison. Especially considering that it’s more sustainable and long-lasting. A good multiplayer game can be stretched out for years at a time. People still play League of Legends to this day despite it been years since release.

The phenomenon of Fortnite, PUBG, and Apex Legends also continues to showcase the power of the multiplayer industry.

Yes, all these games are in fact on the PlayStation 4 as well, but what Layden meant was to bring more PlayStation 5 multiplayer exclusives to the table.

We also know that Sony will be focusing on quality over quantity, so we might be seeing a couple of multiplayer exclusives at most. Besides developing and releasing the game, there’s also its sustenance.

Either way, exciting news for multiplayer fans that were already thinking about to buy the PlayStation 5. It can also attract new users to the console itself.

Hopefully, this doesn’t distract Sony from what actually made the PlayStation 4 so great. Spider-Man, God of War, Uncharted 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn truly defined the current generation of gaming. And those were all single player.
