Two days ago Team Cherry, the developers of the smash hit Metroidvania game Hollow Knight, announced that they would be releasing a preview of the upcoming Hornet DLC for the game on Valentine’s Day. This morning, they did that, and blew every fan’s expectations out of the water with Hollow Knight: Silksong.
In the original Hollow Knight game, Hornet was a secondary character who was traveling through the ruined kingdom of Hallownest, much like the players. Though she first seemed at odds with you, eventually the two of you work together to stop the plague infecting the bugs of Hallownest.
Hollow Knight: Silksong, however, is not a DLC for the original game that gives us Hornet’s perspective. Instead, it’s a whole new game, a sequel where Hornet is kidnapped and taken to a new kingdom ruled by silk and song, with new threats, new bosses, and new characters. While we don’t know what exactly the story of Hollow Knight: Silksong will be, considering how deep and detailed the original game’s story was, it will definitely be something to remember.
From what we can see in the trailer’s gameplay segments, Hornet plays very different from the Vessel that we played in the original Hollow Knight game. Without the magic of the void, Hornet relies more on her string and her great agility to outwit enemies, though she seems to have some magic of her own.
Hollow Knight: Silksong doesn’t have a release date yet, so we don’t know if it will come out this year or in 2020, or even beyond that. We do know, at least, that it will be coming to a number of different consoles on release. These include Windows, Mac, Linux, and the Nintendo Switch. So, if you’ve played the game on any of those platforms, you can continue the adventure when Silksong comes out.
