Apex Legends Player Numbers Reach Over 2.5 Million On The First Day

Only two days after its release, Respawn Entertainment’s new battle royale game Apex Legends is already making waves. Apex Legends player numbers reached over 2.5 million on the first day, despite the fact that the game has removed a great many things that could otherwise tie its gameplay to Titanfall.

While Apex Legends takes place in the Titanfall universe, players aren’t going to be stomping around in giant robot suits anytime soon. In the interest of fairness, the game has done away with the enhanced mobility from the normal Titanfall games, along with getting rid of Titans. 60 players controlling various characters therefore have to fight across the map on foot until there’s one left standing.

However, the lack of Titanfall-like game mechanics doesn’t seem to have kept the game from racking up a huge number of players, including 600,000 playing at the same time. Considering how well-received Titanfall 2 was, despite being put up against Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1, it’s good to know that Respawn is getting the recognition that it deserves.

Considering that Apex Legends only just released, there’s no telling where it will go in the future, or what its release and apparent success means for Titanfall as a whole. Respawn has said that they are not currently working on a Titanfall 3, but there’s no telling if that will change in the future in regards to this game, especially if Apex Legends player numbers hold true.

At the same time, there’s likely a lot of things that Respawn’s developers can do with the game to help a new Titanfall game along, if they’re ever allowed to make one. While Apex Legends’s existence likely means we’ll never get a battle royale mode in an actual Titanfall game, the lessons that Respawn learns from this can help them a lot in the future.

You can currently add to the Apex Legends player numbers by picking up the game for free on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, or PC.
