New Mortal Kombat 11 Details Have Surfaced; Characters, Gameplay And More

Today, NetherRealm Studios held a Mortal Kombat 11 event revealing a treasure trove of information, ranging from the game’s story mode, to returning characters and new fighters. There will likely be more revealed over the course of the following months until the game releases, but for now this should be enough.

To start off with, we have the characters. At the event, NetherRealm Studios gave us a brand new character and six returning ones. Mortal Kombat X gave us a large number of new characters, including D’Vorah, Ferra/Torr, Erron Black, Kotal Khan, Takeda, Jacqui Briggs, Kung Jin, and Cassie Cage. Now, it seems like Mortal Kombat 11 will give us even more.

Returning characters that have been confirmed so far include all of the big names: Scorpion, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Skarlet, one of the multiple scantily-clad female ninjas who first debuted in Mortal Kombat 9, now with a new look and creepy blood powers. Two new characters have also been added, both apparently able to control time. These two fighters, Geras and Kronika, are apparently going to be working together.

Players can customize the looks of all of their fighters while also changing their fighting styles, though each character will retain their own distinctive look. NetherRealm then went on to confirm a rumor that had been floating around ever since the game was first revealed, that MMA (and now WWE) star Ronda Rousey would be voicing Sonya Blade.

Also included at the Mortal Kombat 11 event was a trailer showing off the prologue to the game’s story mode, showing how the epilogue of Mortal Kombat X, where Raiden went to the Netherrealm and warned Liu Kang against attacking Earthrealm again…while illustrating his point with Shinnok’s severed head.

That same trailer also offered a glimpse of one of the new characters, likely Kronika, but exactly what all will be happening over the course of the story remains to be seen. All that’s been hinted at is that Raiden has somehow upset the balance of the universe, but whether Kronika and Geras serve the Elder Gods or some other faction hasn’t been revealed yet.

Either way, you can pre-order Mortal Kombat 11 in order to get Shao Khan as a playable character, along with getting beta access to the game before it releases. Mortal Kombat 11 will become available on April 23 of this year for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
