Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition Combat Guide

Our Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition Combat Guide will help you learn all about the game's Battle System and different aspects associated with it.

Even though Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is easy to get a grip on, some of its mechanics can take time to get used to. The game can be a little complex but easy to overcome with some practice in its skills and combos.

Tales of Vesperia Combat

You can set the difficulty level of the game at Easy, Normal, and Hard.

The game’s ‘Normal’ is very easy so you can play a little on it just to get a grip and then switch to the ‘Hard’ as playing in the ‘Easy’ mode, you won’t be receiving any ‘Grade’ which is the game’s currency.

In the ‘Hard’ mode, you can receive a Grade by either hitting the enemy or finishing the challenges that the boss gives you. Other than that, there are three Control Modes, namely:

Manual
Here you control the player yourself in the combats. It also helps you get bonus grade to play in this mode.

Semi-Auto
This is just like a manual but only your movement will be automated.

Auto
This mode is more for your support characters. Here the character is fully automated. It can also be used if you want to learn about the combats.

Items

There are categories of the item in which a specific item will be kept e.g. a new item will be in the ‘New’ category or your weapons will be in the ‘Main’ category.

Equipment

These will increase your chance of survival and will help you in your combats and give you stat boosts.

There are five slots of equipment that will carry your Weapons, Armor, Helmet, and Accessories. Some weapons are even unique to a character and can only be used by that specific character.

Skills

Skills for a particular weapon can be learned if you practice on it long enough. Skills are divided into four categories: Attack, Guard, Move, and Support.

You can also create your own weapon by the material you pick up from the enemies you defeat or the material you find from chests and different zones.

Sometimes these weapons and armors can be proved more reliable than the weapons you bought.

Tactics

Your tactics can be customized by holding LB and using the D-pad.

You have to be efficient about your party’s formation and AI. You can change Artes or the use of an item, etc. Changing your formation can change your combat style and can give your battles a new strategy.

Artes

Artes evolve further in the game as you ascend levels and practice your Artes. You can only check your Artes when you’ll use them in battles and you can even pick one you like the most and can practice it.

Some Artes do little damage than some that do massive damage. You can choose your arte according to your combat style.

Combos

You can do combos when you continue hitting your enemy when he is non-defensive. Don’t give him time to recover until you have used all your hits and Artes in the specific skill.

Better combo skills can be achieved with another player by your side who’s skilled in melee based combos in but you can go solo too and eventually as you’ll get more Artes your combos will keep getting complex.
