In today’s episode of drama and betrayal, Bungie and Activision Blizzard have finally split. This might not necessarily be a bad news for Bungie, which is supported by the fact that Cowen & Company has predicted that Destiny 3 release date will be in 2020!
Cowen & Company is actually a very big multinational investment bank and financial services company, so predictions from this research firm aren’t expected to be wrong. This news is supported by the fact that Bungie has always followed a routine.
“Destiny was a worthwhile attempt by Activision to build another cornerstone franchise, one that just didn’t quite pan out as they had hoped (underlining once again the high difficulty of creating and managing a successful live service game business), in our view.”
Destiny 1 was released in 2014, with the first major expansion ‘The Taken King’ in 2015 and the second major expansion ‘Rise of Iron’ in 2016. Destiny 2 was released in 2017, with the first major update ‘Forsaken’ in 2018. Judging from this routine, we can actually expect either another major update in 2019, or announcement for Destiny 3 in the middle of this year. Apart from this prediction, Destiny 3 rumors have already started to pour in so it might be true after all.
Following the split from Activision Blizzard must have caused Bungie to lose a little financial morale, if not status. But if Bungie plays its cards right, and uses this split to make the new Destiny 3 a success, Bungie might regain the honor it used to have during the Destiny 1 days.
Speaking of Destiny 3, we did hear some “leaks” from a Reddit insider ‘AnonTheNine’ a few months ago, that Bungie was already working on Destiny 3 back then too. The director would be Chris Barret, art director for the original Destiny and the game Director of Destiny 2.
Destiny 3 is also expected to be focusing more on RPG elements, and will be considerably harder than Destiny 2. Players are highly anticipating what kind of game Destiny 3 turns out to be, especially considering the fact that there will be new unique elements and features in the game like the ability to use Darkness to your advantage and being able to control separate territories in the open world adventure.
We will definitely update you as soon as we hear anything from Bungie. In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled on the Bungie Twitter page.
Speaking of which, you can check out Destiny 2 Niobe Labs Puzzle if you possess the Black Armory DLC. Otherwise, the Ascendant Chests might be a good deal.
Hopefully the new Destiny 3 will come out on the next generation Xbox Scarlett as well as the rumored PlayStation 5.
