NIntendo Switch To Lead Hardware Sales In 2019, Subscription Services To See Accelerated Growth

Before Nintendo Switch’s launch, no one expected it to be a huge success. Now, we are in 2019 and Nintendo Switch, with its excellent first-party and third-party support, proved to be very successful. However, it seems that the hybrid console will not only continue its streak but, will also outpace PS4 and Xbox One in 2019 in terms of hardware sales.

According to analyst Mat Piscatella, Nintendo Switch will be the market leader in 2019 in terms of hardware sales. Piscatella noted that Nintendo Switch is one track to reach “more than 35 shares of hardware unit sales in the US in 2019″.

He added that most Nintendo Switch sales will likely be driven by the upcoming Pokemon game. Not only that, the “continued strength of Nintendo’s evergreen franchises” will see the console to come at the top.

As for PS4 and Xbox One, he noted that 2019 “could be a bumpy year” for Sony and Microsoft. The reason behind this are the “predicted 2020 next-gen” consoles. Given that PlayStation 5 and Xbox One Scarlett are confirmed, it’s likely gamers are looking forward to them.

Aside from Nintendo Switch hardware sales, he also predicts an increase in digital content purchase. By digital content, he meant online subscription services like Xbox Game pass, digital games and more.

However, he emphasized that gaming subscription services will see rapid growth throughout 2019. You can check out his detailed rundown of 2019 prediction over at his official Twitter account.

Nintendo Switch leading the hardware sales wouldn’t come as surprise. With first-party titles like Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Nintendo proves that it doesn’t need a powerful console to make games fun.

Not only that, back in December 2018 it was revealed that Nintendo Switch outsold PS4 in Japan. Over the course of 2 years, Switch sold 6,670,000 units in Japan. On the other hand, PlayStation 4 managed to sell 6,540,000 units.

2019, in particular, is looking very good for Nintendo Switch. The console will see Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order release. Not only that, the game is a Switch exclusive.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 launch comes after a 10-year wait. Naturally, there is a lot of demand for the game and hype too. Hardcore fans of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance will pick up Switch to play their most anticipated game, further adding to its sales numbers.

On the other hand, Sony and Microsoft are preparing their next-gen consoles. While both are yet to reveal and announce the release date, AMD has confirmed PS5 and Xbox Scarlett for 2020 release.

Not only that, rumor suggests PlayStation 5 features an 8-core AMD Ryzen CPU. Reportedly, PS5 is a solid 4K/60 FPS console and developers already have acces to PS5 dev kits.

However, before PS5 releases, Sony has one more unannounce PS4 exclusive in the works. According to the report, it’s a proper first-party title and won’t be a PSVR game.
