Super Smash Bros Ultimate Rosalina & Luma Guide – How to Play, Moves List, Counters

This guide makes up a part of our series of detailed character guides for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. In our Super Smash Bros Ultimate Rosalina and Luma Guide, we talk about what changes have been brought on board for the character including the animations, moves and counter picks.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Rosalina & Luma

Rosalina from the Super Mario Galaxy series controls Luma as her puppet that performs as she instructs. Thanks to Luma, Rosalina has greater range for her attacks and often at times, Luma will come in harm’s way to incur the damage instead of letting it land on Rosalina. Both these beings are counted as a single fighter and will require being unlocked.

Unlocking Rosalina & Luma

There are three ways of going about for this unlock. The first involves taking the top middle rule of the Dark Realm in the World of Light game mode. You will unlock Rosalina & Luma as soon as they join your team. Alternatively, you can also clear the Classic Mode with either of Pokemon Trainer or Pichu to earn the two characters.

Finally, multiple matches of Versus Mode can be played as Mr. Game & Watch to unlock Rosalina & Luma. Note that the last two methods will first require you to defeat Rosalina & Luma on the Super Mario Galaxy stage, before you can add these two characters to your roster.

Changes in SSBU

In the animations department, Rosalina now chooses to wear silver shoes instead of the blue ones and her air dodge flashes a light. Rosalina also has a new neutral aerial that sees her spinning her wand.

Her Final Smash titled Grand Star instead of the previous Power Star is because of the change in the background during her animation of the move that now shows us a glimpse of the Grand Star. The animation for this final smash attacks also runs shorter than that of Power Star.

Overall, the two characters can now juggle foes more easily and they have reducing lag when it comes to aerials. The jump-squat for Rosalina comes out faster and the character now has 60 HP instead of 50. Luma can be respawned much quicker and Rosalina’s dash speed received a boost. Luma can now hardly pushback the opponent with its jabs as the range has been reduced.

The neutral aerial attack has reduced range, more start up and less active frames so it is a huge nerf to the move. The down aerial has a greater start-up while the up aerial has more end-lag. The forward aerial has reduced end-lag now. The Star Bits special move has more range and damage.

The Gravitational Pull attack now boasts the capability of equipping items alongside pulling them in with force. This plays a role in Rosalina’s ability of throwing projectiles and having a good zoning game. Furthermore, when it comes to zoning, Rosalina can send out Luma, which on its own, now deals a greater damage.
