Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of From Software, has said that there are at least two upcoming From Software titles in the works, even though Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has yet to release. From Software is best known as the pioneer of the Soulslike genre, developing the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, and Demon’s Souls.
With the end of development for Dark Souls 3, From working on Sekiro has allowed it to branch out, even though it was part of three different samurai-focused games that were shown at E3 2018 alongside Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima and Koei-Tecmo’s Nioh 2. Where exactly they go with these games remains to be seen, but Miyazaki has said they’ll be “From Software-esque.”
That means that these upcoming From Software titles will likely have punishing but rewarding difficulty curves, keeping in the studio’s Souls roots. Considering Sekiro is also keeping that gameplay aesthetic in mind, it seems like for as long as From Software is around, gamers who like a challenge will always have one.
Technically From Software is developing or has developed two other games as well, in the form of Dark Souls Remastered and Metal Wolf Chaos XD. Both, however, are remasterings of games that From had previously developed, and were done at the request of Bandai Namco and Devolver Digital, respectfully.
Metal Wolf Chaos is an interesting case as well because it has never seen a full release in the United States up until this point, apparently due to From Software’s concerns that the game would somehow offend Americans. Previously, while available in English, the only way you could get the game was to import it from Japan yourself.
But either way, these new upcoming From Software titles will hopefully be just as good as the Soulsborne games, and hopefully we’ll be seeing them at an E3 in the near future.
