My boy Witcher 3 makes it yet again. For good reason too, a timeless game. As the developers affectionately describe it. “Time is fleeting, but memories are forever”.

PUBG also did surpass Dota 2 in steam users earlier this year. A feat that puts it in the Game of the Year nomination. This really is the year of the Battle Royale, considering how Fortnite also won the game of the year at the Golden Joystick awards. Would be interesting to see PUBG take it at the Steam Awards 2018.

Dark Souls 3 is also a nice sight to see among the nominees. Mr. Miyazaki recently won a lifetime achievement award for the ongoing popularity of the SoulsBorne series itself. Good to see the title is still being appreciated for its stellar environment.

Conclusion

My vote’s on Monster Hunter World for the Game of the Year award. While it did start off as a console game, the boom of players that it had on PC was astounding. Its ongoing content additions and little crossover quests continue to keep it fresh as well.

PUBG could definitely earn the Game of the year award for dethroning Dota alone. Since that’s a feat no game has done in a long time. However, the way it was released in an early access state and an unoptimized state, it hasn’t changed that much since its full launch either. That doesn’t make it Game of the year material in my books at least.

Of course, the Steam Winter sale is a great opportunity for players to pick up the games for their awards. Pick up the Witcher 3 if you haven’t already!
