Capcom’s Mega Man Legacy Collection sales have reached a million for the first time ever in the history of the franchise, a big milestone especially for such a long-running franchise that’s had so many video games come out for it. The Legacy Collection debuted on the Switch earlier this year.
Mega Man, being a series that has run for 15 years, with 11 mainline games, a number of different continuities, and even a large number of guest appearances in a number of other games ranging from Marvel vs Capcom to Super Smash Bros. The Mega Man Legacy Collection sales being so high is likely a result of this exposure, especially since Mega Man 11 came out in October and Mega Man is back in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
The Mega Man Legacy Collection sales have allowed at least a million fans of the games to gain access to the eight-bit adventures of the Blue Bomber in his first six games, though there is another collection released along with it that gave us every other Mega Man game as well, up to 10.
Another collection, this one about the X series, one of the many different continuities of Mega Man, was released back in 2006, with the Legacy X Collection released on pretty much every platform earlier this year. All of these resurgences can definitely be seen in how many Mega Man Legacy Collection sales have been released.
Mega Man ran into similar problems as the Sonic the Hedgehog games and other well-known platformers of that era, mainly with a large number of games that were seen as substandard and even a spiritual successor in the form of Mighty Number 9, though that game’s bad reception might have been another reason that Mega Man got popular again.
Either way, hopefully the Mega Man Legacy Collection sales reaching a million marks the beginning of a resurgence for Capcom and Mega Man especially. You can buy the games on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS, and PC.
