Since all of the characters that have been a part of the Super Smash Bros. series are making a return in the first game of the series for the Switch, it is no surprise that many characters have needed changes so as to make the combat interesting and prevent certain characters from being too OP.
In our SSBU Luigi Guide, we talk about what changes have been brought on board for Luigi including his moves, combos, playing as Luigi, and countering him.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate Luigi
First of all, we will take a look at what changes have been made by the developers when it comes to Luigi in the new game. After that, we will tell you how you can unlock Luigi.
Finally, we will take a look at all of the Special Moves that he has and how you can use them to take out enemies with ease.
Luigi has been a part of the game since the beginning and was also included in SSB4. Let’s take a look at what sort of changes have been made to the character since its last appearance in Super Smash Bros.
For those who liked to use Luigi in the previous games, there is good news. There have not been many changes made to the character apart from certain tweaks to make the character more polished for Ultimate.
For example, Luigi has brand new facial expressions as well as a new dashing animation that mimics his running in Super Mario 3D World.
For you Up Tilt, a brand new uppercut available will give you a little more ‘oomph’ in your offensive play. Also, there is a brand new animation for your Green Missile Special Attack, which we will look at in just a moment.
Overall, the character is still the same and old players should not have any trouble settling in with Luigi.
How to Unlock
All of the characters in SSBU are unlocked using the same method. You can either play the World of Light singleplayer mode, complete the Classic Mode with the character or play the Challenger Approaches fights.
You can quickly reset the Challenger Approaches fights if you head o over to the custom ruleset game after restarting SSBU. Here, make sure the time limit is set to 1 minute and finish the match.
It does not matter whether you win or lose, but you will have a brand new challenger fight waiting for you when you get back to the menu. Repeat this process until you get the fight of your choice.
Special Moves and Final Smash
For your simple Neutral Special that can be performed by pressing the B button, you can throw a fireball. You can hold the left stick left or right if you want to perform your Green Missile known as the Fox Illusion.
Your Up Special is known as the Super Jump Punch while your Down Special is known as the Luigi Cyclone. In order to perform both of these, hold the left stick in the corresponding direction and then press the B button.
The Final Smash that you had is still the same in SSB4. In order to perform it, you need to press the B button when your FS meter is full.
Although the attack is in itself still the same, there is a brand new name for it: Poltergust G-00, which is the Poltergust that Luigi has in Luigi’s Mansion 3. It has replaced the old Poltergust 5000.
As you would expect, you can use many different costumes as Luigi. There are costumes that turn you purple from Green, give you different ears, and change your color.
There are many different colors for you to choose from, although it is very strange to see Luigi in anything but green for us.
