The greedy self-proclaimed king of Dream Land and Kirby’s arch-rival is yet again featured in the new Smash Bros. Dedede is a versatile character and such, he is difficult to play.
In our Super Smash Bros Ultimate King Dedede Guide, we talk about what changes have been brought on board for King Dedede including his moves, combos, playing as King Dedede, and countering him.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate King Dedede
He is not very fast, but he is one of few heavyweight fighters with great recovery. In SSBU, he has been made more interesting, he can now eat projectiles, fire them back at the opponent, and he can break shields with his Jet Hammer.
Moves List and Combos
King Dedede is now much heavier which makes him more susceptible to combos. However, he dashes more swiftly and his movement speed in air is much faster. His Neutral Infinite Chain is faster and its finisher has more knockback.
Forward tilt has less endlag. Up tilt deals less damage, however, it is much faster and has more knockback. Downtilt have more damage and knockback. His entire smash has received buffs. Forward Smash and Down Smash do more damage.
In the previous games, the hitbox for Gordo was ridiculous, it was much smaller than the size of Gordo, but this has been patched. Gordo finally has a bigger hitbox; the hitbox is now matching the animation.
For people who are new to the game, Gordo is a projectile thrown by Dedede, its one of his special abilities. Besides Gordo Throw, Dedede also uses special moves such as Inhale, Super Dedede Jump, and Jet Hammer.
King Dedede has a new Final Smash, Dede-Rush, which features King Dedede taking his “Masked Dedede” persona from Kirby Super Star Ultra before trapping opponents inside of a caged boxing ring, attacking them with a barrage of missiles, and launching them with his Jet Hammer.
This was actually featured in Smash 4 but it now has greater knockback but deals less damage.
Naturally, the king would have a great variety to choose from, the same case is here. King Dedede comes with 8 different outfits to make him look good.
These outfits are generally the same robes with different patterns and colors on each of them. One of them even features a completely grey Dedede.
Please note that our SSBU King Dedede Character Guide remains a work-in-progress. We will continue to add more content in the coming days.
