In our Super Smash Bros Ultimate Donkey Kong Guide, we talk about what changes have been brought on board for Donkey Kong including his moves, combos, playing as Donkey Kong, and countering him.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate Donkey Kong
Our favorite gorilla is back (sorry *Diddy Kong*) and he’s more expressive in his facial features and actions as well. Do note that Donkey Kong is not one of the eight starting characters in the game, so you will need to unlock him first.
This can be done in three ways. Taking the Martha route in World of Light mode will unlock the character or you can play as any of the original eight starting characters of the game in the Classic Mode to earn Donkey Kong.
Lastly, playing multiple matches as Zelda in Versus Mode will also unlock DK.
Moves List and Combos
This is where the majority of changes were made to the character of Donkey Kong. His neutral attacks now deal more damage and can be combo-ed much easier into further attacks.
The dash attack also received a buff to the damage. The Back Aerial now has greater pushback, so does the Up throw move with the latter receiving a buff to its damage and speed.
His back and cargo throw have also been given more damage output and knockback.
The Aerial Spinning Kong covers less horizontal distance, more vertical distance and now has less damage output. Lastly, Donkey Kong’s Headbutt now has super armor applied to it on startup.
Please note that our SSBU Donkey Kong Character Guide remains a work-in-progress. We will continue to add more content in the coming days.
