Super Smash Bros Ultimate Chrom Guide – How to Play, Move List, Combos, Counters

In our Super Smash Bros Ultimate Chrom Guide, we talk about what changes have been brought on board for Chrom including his moves, combos, playing as Chrom, and countering him.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Chrom

The Fire Emblem series’ popular hero, Chrom, makes his first-time appearance in the Super Smash series.

Sharing the same franchise, Chrom is an Echo Fighter to Roy and shares the majority of his moves and animations, so essentially you can expect a largely similar playstyle from Chrom.

Unlocking Chrom

You can play in any of the three modes: World of Light, Classic, or Versus to unlock Chrom.

In the World of Light mode, while you are traversing the Sacred Land, interact with a treasure and open it to unlock Chrom. You can also play through the Classic Mode as either Ridley or Yoshi to unlock Chrom.

Lastly, Chrom is unlocked in the versus mode by playing multiple times as his Echo Fighter, Roy.

Like all new characters, Chrom will have an Amiibo figure to accompany him. Exactly when it launches is up to speculation but it will be within the early part of 2019.

Differences between Chrom and Roy

Chrom and Roy both have different Final Smash and Up Special. The final smash for Chrom is known as Awakening Aether. Contrary to the flames that surround most of Roy’s moves, Chrom has wind affect applied to his moves.

Although Roy’s Falchion move has varying damage and KO potential according to the spot on the opponent where it hits, Chrom’s damage is consistent throughout albeit it is less than the damage done on the critical points by Roy.

Chrom’s Soaring Slash covers more vertical distance than Roy’s Blazer and inflicts more damage as well. Lastly, Chrom’s Up Smash counts as three hits compared to Roy’s one which comprises of five hits.

In the animation department, his Neutral Attack differs with that of Roy. Chrom’s Forward tilt sees him holding the blade in a reverse grip contrary to that of Roy.

The main differences when it comes to the animations involve their taunts and victory poses.

Our SSBU Chrom Guide, as of now, is work-in-progress. We will continue to add more content in the coming days.
