Despite all of the games that are going to get both revealed and get new trailers at this year’s Game Awards show, a Cyberpunk 2077 Game Awards appearance isn’t one of them. Community lead Marcin Momot posted on Twitter today that while the company is looking forward to all of the announcements, they won’t be part of it.
Cyberpunk 2077 only got “officially announced” a few months ago, back in June at E3, and rapidly became one of the most talked-about games around. Considering the company’s work on the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, an open-world game in a huge cyberpunk city rather than a fantasy world caught many people’s eyes.
The new game still doesn’t have any sort of release date aside from possibly in 2019, so CD Projekt RED is likely putting the kibosh on a Cyberpunk 2077 Game Awards appearance in order to forestall any hype that might cause the studio to have to rush it out. Since the very first inkling we had of Cyberpunk was back in 2013, and since then we’d had almost no word at all about it, we can probably wait a little more.
Either way, there are still a lot of other events that CD Projekt RED can cut trailers for either this month or sometime next year, unless they decide to just wait until E3 2019 to give us any new hints about Cyberpunk, or show us a new trailer. While we’ve gotten a few bits of gameplay, we haven’t really gotten to see that same gameplay at a major event.
So, while we won’t be getting a Cyberpunk 2077 Game Awards appearance, there are still going to be a lot of different games that will both be showing up or getting announced, so be on the lookout for interesting stuff from those this Friday, December 7, when the show begins.
