You’re going to have to unlearn a lot of stuff that you’ve learned from other battle royale games when the Red Dead Redemption 2 battle royale mode comes out. Unlike other games where you have a wide variety of weapons to use, you’ll only be using bows and arrows and knives.
Normally battle royale games give their players a large amount of different weapons, ranging from guns to less conventional gear like crossbows, rocket launchers, and more. However, Red Dead Redemption 2 appears to not be interested in doing this, and instead creating its own method of battle royale in the form of hamstringing players.
Players will only be getting bows and arrows or throwing knives, depending on the different maps that they use in the game mode. However, this also adds a new dimension to the gameplay in the Red Dead Redemption 2 battle royale mode. Now, with just throwing knives and bows, players will have to be very stealthy and be sure that they know they’re going to hit something, along with using camouflage.
While a cowboy fight that doesn’t involve revolvers or rifles might sound odd to start with, there’ll likely be a lot more excitement when you have to constantly be on the lookout for all of the different players that will also be walking around being stealthy, as the possibility of you dying from a random shot out of nowhere by someone you can’t see would definitely make you jump.
There’s no telling if Rockstar will eventually upgrade the Red Dead Redemption 2 battle royale mode to have different gametypes so that we can use our full arsenal of weapons, along with using horses and other modes of transportation, but hopefully this version will still be fun even with bows and arrows.
Currently Red Dead Online is only in beta, but is slated to fully launch sometime in 2019. You can play Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Xbox One and Playstation 4.
