At today’s Final Fantasy 14 Fanfest, Square Enix finally unveiled a brand new expansion that would be coming to the company’s Final Fantasy MMORPG. Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers will be bringing at least one new job, one new race, and a whole new story, all of it announced by an amazing trailer.
The trailer in question once again takes us into the shoes of the “player character” that’s been passing from trailer to trailer, switching jobs as he goes from Bard to Dragoon to Warrior to Samurai and now Dark Knight, wandering in a desert after the Grand Alliance of Eorzea has apparently, along with the Empire of Garlea, been defeated, though we don’t know the full story as of yet.
So far, what we do know about the game is that after liberating Al Mhigo from the Garleans in the previous expansion, Stormblood, Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers has us taking the fight to the Garlean Empire to end the war once and for all. However, something has apparently happened to both sides, throwing everything into chaos. All we know for sure is that the Warrior of Light, the game’s name for your protagonist, must now become the Warrior of Darkness to meet this new threat.
Players will be able to choose at least two new jobs; one specifically announced one is a Blue Mage class that will be coming out in 4.5, long before the expansion comes out in 2019. The other one, apparently saved for the expansion, is an unnamed class wielding a gunblade, an iconic Final Fantasy weapon.
Players will also have a new race to choose in the form of the Viera, a rabbit-like race of humanoids that originally come from Final Fantasy 12.
