Video games are a virtual reality for most players, and no I’m not talking about the literal VR genre. I mean that they’re basically an extension with an avatar for the player to insert themselves in. After that, they often exercise the freedom to do whatever they want. In this case, players exercise that ability by killing feminists in Red Dead Redemption 2, as shown here
The video depicts a player in the boots of Arthur Morgan, the cowboy protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2. Currently, in the town of Saint Dennis, he makes his way to a tailor, encountering a feminist on the way. She’s protesting for her right to vote which women didn’t have back then.
Although he ignores her at first, he comes back a while later and makes his approach. Not before tying up his bandanna, however, gotta keep that honor intact ya know?
After initiating the interaction, he chooses the antagonize option. This invokes Arthur to be snarky, cynical and sarcastic. Mocking her protest, not due to her gender, however. But instead, because he finds the entire concept of voting itself to be stupid. So kudos to Red Dead Redemption 2 slipping a subtle dash of tolerance in Arthur right there.
The player still proceeds to attack though and knocks the feminist to the ground with a punch. The game then registers his crime and initiates the witness mechanic.
Now like the GTA games, Red Dead Redemption allows a very open-ended experience to its players outside of the main story. With the free roaming world designed to be full of options and activities for people to engage in without worrying about ramifications as they would in real life. This includes robbing, mugging, and stealing.
In this case, it also includes knocking a feminist’s teeth out.
Should it be condemned and called out by the community and PC culture population though? Probably not, I mean in the end, it’s still a game. The purpose of a game is to be able to do whatever you want as long as it’s in the game itself. That includes socking a feminist, robbing a stagecoach, killing the KKK (which actually is probably ok in real life too).
Because if you’re going to insinuate that punching a feminist is where you draw the line, while all the shooting, looting and robbing gets a free pass. You got a problem, buddy. If you REALLY want to be enraged though, take a look at this.
